ROLLER SKATING
Endurance Records Broken At Ohope (New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, February 16, A world and a New Zealand record for endurance roller skating were broken at Ohope Beach during the week-end. Peter Beasley, aged 17, of Ohope, broke the world record of 26 hours 17 minutes set up by Hau Tipene, at Moerewa, a week ago, by skating 27 hours, from midday on Saturday till 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Although tired in the legs, Beasley said he could have gone on, but he was satisfied to have broken the record. Misses Barbara Bell, of Edgecumbe, and Colleen Dalgety, of Ohope, broke the New Zealand women’s endurance record by nine and a half hours. The previous record was 14% hours, and the pair skated from midday on Saturday tin midday yesterday. They were attended by a doctor when they went off the rink, but had suffered nothing apart from tiredness. A novice skater, Pamela Hogg, aged 14, of Ohope,' set up a personal best time of 13 hours when she went through till 1 o’clock yesterday morning.
