ROUND TABLE MOVEMENT

Christchurch North Branch Formed The Christchurch North Round Table No. 4, an organisation Ct young businessmen intending tn 1 provide service to the community, will be formed this evening. It will be the second round table in Christchurch, the first having been formed- in 1953. Because at the large membership of the first body the new Christchurch North table has been formed, and 19 members living in the northern part of the city have volunteered to join the new organisation. Round Table is an international movement for yoUng businessmen between the ages of 18 and 40. Organised similar to Rotary. Membership is limited to two from each trade or profession, and, as in Rotary, members are invited’ to join after having been approved by members. Round Table groups are active in Western Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, and South America. There are 922 tables in the world, with a membership of 24,000. The first New Zealand table was founded in Christchurch in 1953. and since then tables have been established in Auckland and Wellington. Most of the community service performed so far in Christchurch has been connected with the aged. Firewood has been provided for them, Christmas parties held, and bottle drives organised to raise money. Round Table provides the potatoes for the "metis oo wheels" service, and on occasions the meal delivery vans have been manned by Round Tama members.
