Women’s Cricket WOMEN’S GAMES

S. McCaw Again Top Scorer There were no outstanding batting or bowling successes when the Canterbury women’s Crickpt Associations competitions were continued on Saturday. Top score of the day was again made by S. McCaw with 58 against Mai Moa. M. McGregor made 49 for Mai Moa B, Turner 44 not out, and A. Malins 39 for St. Albans were also scores of note. Bowlers with most wickets were S. McCaw (Western), four for 27, and L. Bayliss (Mai Moa), four for 28.

St. Albans A v. Beckenham St. Albans won the toss and sent Beckenham in to bat. Both the Beckenham openers, E. Dickson and D. Canton were very slow agaihst the bowling of T. Reid and J. Ashenden, and runs came slowly for the first half of the innings. Dickson was well caught behind by the sub wicket-keeper, B. Turner* E. Overend batted solidly for 31 not out. and O. Williams batted aggressively for 29 not out. Chief wicket taker for St. Albans was J. Ashenden, who took three for 51, and T. Reid bowled economically. The St. Albans fielding was better than the previous week.

St. Albans batsmen were looking for runs from the start of the innings and J. Stead and A. Malins gave the team a good start. Then B. Turner and Malins came together in a good partnership, both hitting the ball very hard. Turner’s 44 was her best score to date, and she is improving rapidly. Then Turner (44 not out) and D. Weir (14 not out) batted till full time. The result was in ddubt till the end of the game with St., Albans 6 runs behind the Beckenham total with seven wickets in hand. R. Dickson and OJ Williams were the main wicket takers for Beckenham, and the bowling was steady. The match was drawn. Beckenham 124 for four declared (E. Overend 31 not out, O. Williams 29 not out, E. Dickson 19, C. Cawtheray 15, R. Dickson 10; J. Ashenden three for 51, P. Jarvis one for 21) drew with St. Albans A 118 for three (B. Turner 44 not out, A. Malins 39, J. Stead 13, D. Weir 14 not out; O. Williams two for 36, R. Dickson one for 41). Mai Moa v. Western A Mai Moa won the toss and put Western in to bat. S. McCaw played well for her 58. She hit the ball hard, scoring all round the wicket. T. Prestage, 16, was the only other batsman to score double figures. J. Rouse took an excellent catch to dismiss S. McCaw. Mai Moa’s bowling was quite steady, with L. Bayliss (four for 28) securing her best figures for some time. M. McGregor, three for 24, and J. Rouse, two for 17, gave good support. In Mai Moa’s innings, M. McGregor compiled a good 49. Her batting was very forceful. A. Rouse ..scored a patient 31. S. McCaw was the only successful bowler, and she deserved het four for 27. This game also had a close finish with Mai Moa 16 runs behind Western with, five wickets down. Western 115 (S. McCaw 58, T. Prestage 16; L. Bayliss four for 28, T. McGregor three for 24. J. Rouse two for 17) drew with Mai Moa 99 for five (M. McGregor 49, A. Rouse 31; S. McCaw four for 27). Intermediate Grade St. Albans B 65 (J. Dickenson 10, V. Steere 10; T. Lloyd five for 13, C.
