H. Lulham (Canterbury) came through the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s open singles tournament without Ims, winning his Anal against W. H. Cooke (Canterbury) 24-12 on Saturday. Drawing with great ' accuracy throughout the series, he forced his opponents into errors, causing them to drive and play running. shots. Although some of the faster shots succeeded, it was the steady drawing that won through. In his game against H. Teague (Shirley) he was in command of the game from the start and won 21-16. W. H. Cooke (Canterbury) recovered brilliantly in his semi-final against D. Vaughan (Opawa). Leading 11-5 on the tenth head, Vaughan appeared to have the game well in hand, but,Cooke fought back to level the score 11-11 on the fourteenth. A single on the next head- to Vaughan was his last effort, for over the next five heads Cooke scored eight to win 19-12 with one head unplayed- / Cooke met Lulham in the final. It was a rather one-sided game, with Lulham running out . the winner 24-12. Three’s on the nekt two heads by Powell put him in the lead again, but this was reudced by Thompson with a single and three to take over by one. Good play* on the next head gave Powell another three and the advantage was his, but he lost it on the next head when Thompson scored a three. Powell redeemed the position on the next two heads to be in front 22-20 with two heads left to play, and on these a single and a two to gave him the game Barron, after losing the lead to Murray, on the seventh head was not in the picture again, Murray winning 23-14.
