POLICE FORCE TRANSFERS The following police transfers and retirements have been announced for Canterbury:—Sergeant T. Steele, of Greymouth, will succeed Sergeant R. F. Leith, on his retirement, at St. Albans; Constable E. F. Smith, who has retired, will be succeeded at Burnham by Constable W. G. Irving, of Waimate; Constable C. S. Russell, who has retired, will be succeeded at Leeston by Constable J. Johnson, of Hampden; and Constable D. A. Knight, of Blenheim, will go to Shirley, on the retirement of Constable J. G. Elms. Senior-Sergeant J. Devlin, of North Dunedin, will take over at Ashburton on the retirement of Senior-Sergeant C. D. King. Sergeant G. Urquhart, of Rangiora, is to go to Waihi; Sergeant J. Jackson, of New Brighton, to Waipukurau, and Constable L Rose, of Ashburton, to Taradale.
