’ American To Be Tried In Cuba iIVJZi Press Association —CopimofttJ HAVANA, Feb. 10 A former United States Navy , airman, Alan Nye, will be tried soon before a Cuban revolutionary tribunal on charges of conspiring to assassinate Dr. Fidel Castro, a rebel spokesman said last night. Nye has denied reports that he confessed to a plot to kill Dr. Castro. Rebel soldiers arrested Nye in Oriente Province on December 25. six weeks after he was reported to have arrived in Havana from Miami.
The Cuban Government took the first step yesterday towards the withdrawal of the United States military aid mission in Cuba
The Foreign Ministry announced the appointment of a special commission of two Army officers to negotiate for the withdrawal of the mission.
The action was in compliance with the terms of the bilateral treaty under which the overthrown Government of President Fulgencio Batista arranged for United States military and technical assistance.
Dr. Castro, shortly after the revolution, announced that the Government would send the American military men home, contending they were not needed since his guerrilla forces had overcome the Batista Army to which the American mission was attached.
The start oi the negotiations pointed toward the departure of all members of the 50-man Army, Navy and Ail; Force Amer’can advisory mission within 60 days.
