Race Bus Fares
Sir,—Could you tell me why the bus fare from the /race* to the Square Is Is 3d more than the fare from the Square? As a regular custodier t Cannot undentand this extra bus I tpoktlfce Usual bus to Church corn«Wr’Hd.from where the racecourse is about 300 yards. While coming back on the special bus I had to pay 2s 6d single to the Square. I don’t think it is right to charge Is 3d extra for the extra 300 • yards.—Yours, etc., HOPEFUL ANDY, February 9, 1959. [The distance ftom Church Corner to the Racecourse ■ was 14 miles, and not 300 yards, as was stated, said Mr J. F. Fardell (General Manager, Christchurch Transport Board). For more than 50 years, special fares had always been charged for special race transport. This was a special facility to provide a service into the racecourse, and entailed the employment of additional staff, at increased rates of pay. The rates charged were quite reasonable when compared with charges elsewhere, and other special means of transport.] ,
