Women’s Bowls MORNINGTON AND MAREWA IN FOURS FINAL

Mrs Cayzer’s Mornington four will meet the reigning champions, Mrs Nicol’s team, from Marewa, in the final of the New Zealand Women’s Bowling Association’s fours tournament on the Shirley green this morning. Three games of post-section play were decided yesterday. Conditions were ideal for the games except for a short time when the wind became rather strong and accurate drawing was a little difficult The green was in excellent order and running very fast for the first two games, but half-way through the third it became much slower when the weather became colder. Even with the changing conditions excellent bowling -was seen throughout the day. Mrs Nicol (Marewa), who had very comfortable wins in all her previous games, was hard pressed in her first game yesterday by Mrs Whale (Mornington). Fighting desperately over the last three heads Mornington could only notch four shots and went down 17-16.

Mrs Nicol in her next game met Mrs Smith (Kaiapoi) and in this she had a very comfortable win. In a semi-final Dallington met Mrs Nicol’s Marewa four, the present champions, and although they were beaten 19-13, they were in no way disgraced. The Dallington four played excellent bowls up to the seventeenth head but the Marewa four were able to draw inside the Dallington shots. Mrs Nicol, and Mrs Winstanley, the Marewa number three, were outstanding in their draw and running shots. Tepapapa in the semi-final

against Mrs Cayzer (Morngtpn) were beaten 23-9. The game finished with, one head left unplayed This was a game which was not so much won by Mornington as it was lost by Tepapapa. Tepapapa resorted to indiscriminate driving ■ which was mostly very inaccurate. .
