Freezing Workers And Employers
(From. Our Own Reporter) ‘ WELLINGTON, February 12. A compulsory conference of the parties concerned in the freezing industry has been called by the Minister of Labour (Mr Hackett).
Mr Hackett said tonight that after discussions this week with representatives of the Freezing Companies Association and representatives of the freezing workers’ unions it was evident that certain issues had arisen between the two parties which were likely to lead to some industrial trouble. The conference which has been called under the Industrial Relations Act, 1949, will be held in Wellington next Thursday. Mr Hackett will be chairman, and it is expected that other Cabinet Ministers will be present.
Bridge Dispute Settled (New Zealana Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 12. The latest labour dispute on the Auckland harbour bridge project has been settled. The General Labourers’ Union today lifted its “black ban” on a section of the job and the project manager, Mr W. Cardno, withdrew the week’s notice of dismissal he had served on the 206 New Zealand workers and told union leaders that the eight barbenders who handed in their resignations last Friday, after complaining about a leading hand, would be welcome back at work at 7.30 a.m. tomorrow. ,
