E. Upritchard, the veteran Cheviot rider, won the puissance, the main event of the day when South Island and Wellington riders competed against the visiting Australian show jumping team at the Show Grounds yesterday. The local horses and riders did well against the Australians, who suffered their first defeat of the tour in the puissance. Mr Upritchard, who is 56, was given a great ovation when he took Land Rover round the ground after his win. Jacobs, on Ocean Foam, in third place. There were 10 clear first rounds, then two further rounds before the final placings were reached.
