BEEF EXPORT TRADE
Observations By Americans
(New Zeatana Press Association! WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. New Zealand’s beef exports were infinitesimal in relation to the total quantity grown and consumed in the United States, the Acting-Minister of Agriculture (Mr Boord) told a party of visiting representatives of American farm organisations today. He expressed a hope that what the representatives had seen for themselves during their visit would help to dispel “entirely misleading rumours” that may have been abroad in the United States about the size of New Zealand’s beef exports. Mr Boord was speaking at a luncheon given to the Americans by the Meat and Wool Boards. •Describing the Americans’ visit as a “get-to-know-you-tour,” Mr Boord said he was convinced that frequent consultation and the development of goodwill between the farmers of New Zealand and farmers of other countries were desirable. Problems could be overcome if there was understanding on all sides. He could give an assurance, not only on behalf of this Government, but also, he believed, on behalf of any New Zealand Government that it would be always ready to promote mutual understanding between the farmers of this and other countries. The American delegation would now have seen for itself that there was no possibility of a tremendous. weight of beef going in from this country to destroy the American market. The representatives would have seen that there was no possibility of the expansion of the export of beef that could be considered “tremendous.”
