NXF.U.W. Discusses Study Theme
Geographical features of six countries of Latin America were explained in a forum at the triennial conference of the New Zealand Federation of University Women last evening. South America is the study theme of the conference and branched haVe been working on aspects of the subject for some time. The president of the federation (Mrs W. Grant) said when opening the session that it had been extremely difficult to find information for study about South America. , « ' . eh2£ U tio®, has written counttess letters for information s aid we have; fas terviewed visitors from the United States pasting through New Zealand. Mrs M. M. Burns did a noble job in finding material for us when overseas recently.” Mrs W. H. Scott, who was chairman of the forum, said that 11 branches would contribute to the symposium on South America. The forum opened With a talk on Brazil by Miss L. Hodgson (Palmerston North) who explained the physical background, climate, vegetation, land use, mineral wealth, industry and communications there. Other countries similarly discussed were, Venezuela (Miss E. Fairbairn, Christchurch); Argentina (Mrs W. F. Winstone, Auckland); Uruguay (Miss E. M. Bottrill, Hamilton); Peru (Misses E. M. Henderson, V. M. Barron, and M. L. Fyfe, Otago); Mexico (Mrs M. W. Morris, Whangarei).
