Remark At Springs Council Meeting

A reported remark by the chairman of the Springs County Council (Mr E. J. Stalker) that the Halswell County Council was "flying its flag” over its road sealing loan was described as “most unchairman-like" and “not diplomatic,” at a meeting of the Halswell County Council last evening. The discussion arose when the chairman of the council (Mr Jas Mackenzie) read a report from a country newspaper of a recent meeting of the Springs County Council. The report quoted Mr Stalker as saying that the Halswell County Council was “flying its flag” over its road sealing loan, when the council was discussing the condition of the section of Davis road in the Halswell County. Last night the Halswell County Council received a letter from Mr S. L. Boon, county clerk of the Springs County Council, asking that the council give consideration to the sealing of their part Of Davis read. Numerous complaints about the state of the road had been reoeived, the letter said. “This is one of the most popular routes between Christchurch and Greenpark and ia sealed with the exception of this section,” said the letter. "It is noted that you are anticipating a heavy road sealing programme in the coming year and my council hopes you can give favourable consideration to Davis road,” he said.
