MONTREUX FIT
Fast Half-Mile At Riccarton
Montreux appeared to have speed in reserve finishing a fast half-mile sprint at Riccarton yesterday. Later in the day she was taken north and will run in the Pencarrow Hack Handicap at Trentham tomorrow.
Montreux was ridden by her race rider, C. T. Wilson. General Time (I. Peters) started with her. but felt the strain some way out In the last furlong Montreux drew out stylishly and finished two lengths and a half clear Montreux ran the distance in 48 4-ssec.
The work was done on the outside of the trial grass. After overnight rain the ground was in great order, although lifting slightly. Motueka (J. Quigley) had Americus (J. Beck) for a companion over a mile. They ran on terms all the way, and finished in Imin 44 4-ssec. The pace was stronger early, the last half mile taking 54 2-ssec.
Motueka is being prepared for the Wellington Racing Club Handicap at Trentham on Monday He is hardy, and does not look to have taken any harm from his unsuccessful campaign at the Auckland Cup meeting.
Lucky Time <R. E. Johnstone' was under restraint alongside Snack (G. Baldwin) and the unraced Novarro (L. McGuire) finishing half a mile in 52sec. Lucky Time was a winner at Hororata three starts back and may take beating in the Camp Handicap at Trentham if she recaptures that form.
