M.E.D. Manager Still In Hospital

Mr G. H. Battersby, the engineer-manager of the Municipal Electricity Department, suffered a hip injury and abrasions to the forehead when he fell 14ft through a manhole on the first floor of the Armagh street sub-station building during Wednesday evening’s power failure. Mr Battersby was found lying on the concrete floor below the manhole, the cover of which had been blown off by the explosion which caused the blackout. In the darkness, Mr Battersby slipped on the displaced cover and plunged through the manhole.

Mr Battersby is still in the Christchurch Public Hospital, where his condition has been reported as satisfactory.
