Benefit
(New Zealana Press Association) WELLINGTON. January 15. Parents of children starting their secondary education this year were today reminded by the Minister of Social Security (Miss Howard* of the 1958 amendment to the Social Security Act. providing for the payment of family benefits up to 52 weeks in advance. Miss Howard said the act was designed to help parents to outfit their children with school uniforms. “It was decided to allow the family benefit for a child starting first year at a post-primary school fo be paid for a period of up to 52 weeks in a lump sum." said the Minister. Applications could now be made to local registrars of social security for advance payments, said Miss Howard. This should allow children to be outfitted in time for the commencement of the new school y«ar. Miss Howard said that applications received later than three months after the commencement of secondary instruction could not be approved. fl
