LONDON WOOL SALE
Cautious Tone At Opening
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright]
LONDON, January 14;
The January series of London wool sales opened today with catalogues of 11.323 bales, of which the New Zealand total was 7048, comprising 4200 in grease, 900 scoured and 1900 slipe. The cautious tone evident was doubtless influenced by the irregularity shown, in the primary markets since the close of the previous London sales of December.
Competition was mainly among the home trade representatives. The greasy offering, mostly cross-breds, was chiefly drawn from Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, and Wellington. Values were irregular and opened in buyers’ favour compared with rates ruling at the close of the previous sales. There was a small offering of slipes end although fine lambs of full length were 5 per cent, cheaper, other descriptions were very firm and sometimes against the buyer.
