Cost of Venture

Many estimates have been made as to how much Vanwall’s success has cost, but they are only haphazard guesses. Vandervell may be a millionaire, but a million pounds can be sadly depleted in a season of motor sport, no matter how successful the cars. To the public Vandervell has always remained a mystery, a man seldom in the limelight and only referred to in cable messages as “the millionaire British industrialist.” Although Vandervell’s father left £262,000 in his will, none of its went to his son, whom he considered to be quite successful enough in business and not requiring any legacy. VanderveU’s story is one of success in business all his life. He works long hours, is astonishingly quick to make decisions, and in interviews with reporters can be either charming or rude.
