LAKER MAY NOT COME TO N.Z.
Spinning Finger Blistered
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, January 18. The English off-spin bowler, J C. Laker, would prefer to go home immediately after the Australian tour rather than go on to New Zealand with the M.C.C team, according to Australian cricket writers. Laker is having a lot of trouble with his spinning finger. It is still badly swollen «nd blistered, following his marathon effort of 46 overs in Australia’s first innings here. Laker also suffers from arthritis in the finger and this complaint is keeping him awake at night No Comment Laker would not co.nment today on the suggestion that he had asked the M.C.C. team officials to allow him to go home after the Australian tour. All he would say was: "If I am requested to go to New Zealand, I expect I’ll have to go ” Laker, who will be 37 on February 9. is believed to be finding the Australian tour a hard one, although he. is loath to admit it.
