APPEAL TO MIKOYAN
Daughter Held In Czechoslovakia
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright > SYDNEY, January 15. An anxious young mother today cabled the Soviet Deputy Premier (Mr Mikoyan) in New York, asking him to help her 10-year-old daughter to Australia from Czechoslovakia. The woman, Mrs Helen Vickers, has not seen her daughter since 1950 when she and her husband migrated to Australia, leaving the daughter to follow with the grandmother.
She claimed today that repeated efforts by her grandmother to get out of Czechoslovakia with the girl had failed, and that the Czech Government attitude had been that the family could best be reunited by Mr and Mrs Vickers going back to Czechoslovakia. Mrs Vickers said she had read reports that Mr Mikoyan had spoken of people “reaching out hands to help each other.”
"This is the way he could start showing goodwill to us,” she said.
