BURNS FIRST EDITION
Child’s Book May Be An Original
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.)
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, January 13. Experts believe that an old book handed to a teacher at a Dumfries-shire school by a 14-year-old pupil is an original copy of Robert Burns’s Kilmarnock edition. I The copy has been compared with an original Kilmarnock edition and a copy of a fascimile edition printed 20 years ago. The teacher had told her class about Bums, saying that it was ironic that he had spent his last years in debt when in recent years a copy of the Kilmarnock edition had been sold for more than £2OOO.
She showed the class a picture of the Kilmarnock edition and a boy in the class said he had a similar one at home.
