AUSTRALIAN WOOL RESEARCH
Drip-Dry Finish Being Sought
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 13. I Australia was on the threshold of producing a drip-dry finish for wool textures, the chairman of the Australian -Wool Bureau (Mr W. A. Gunn) said today. >• He said this would enable the wool industry to meet other competitors in the textile field. Mr Gunn, who is a director 1 of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and a member of the Australian Meat Board, arrived in the Monbwai on a two weeks’ visit He will have talks with the New Zealand meat and wool boards and Government officials. The drop in wool prices had resulted in criticism of the wool industry’s publicity. To counter this the wool bureau was embarking on a vigorous research and promotion programme, he said. The present prices for Australian fine wools made it unprofitable for small growers, “but they will just have to ride it out" he added. He is confident about the future of the wool industry.
