Delgado Given Asylum

The Portuguese Government, said early today that the action of General Humberto Delgado, the defeated Opposition candidate in last year’s Presidential elections. in seeking political asylum at the Brazilian Embassy tn Lisbon last night, “lacked foundation.”
The Brazilian Ambassador last night- told the Portuguese Foreign Ministry that General Delgado had been given asylum as a political refugee last night because be considered himself in imminent danger of being arrested.
The Ministry said, however: “There was no warrant of arrest against General Delgado, nor any intention of arresting him for acts committed up to the present." General Delgado. aged/52, is the senior general in the Portuguese Air Force and a former DirectorGeneral of Civil Aviation. He was placed on the retired list last Wednesday for disobeying regulations governing military discipline.
