Well-Known Tennis Player Dies

LONDON, January 11. Dr. Colin Gregory, chairman of the All-England Lawn Tennis Club, which organises Wimbledon, collapsed after playing tennis at Wimbledon yesterday and died in the dressing room. He was aged 55. Dr. Gregory had been playing with his son and daughter and Dan Maskell, the professional. Born in Yorkshire, Dr. Gregory a former British Davis Cup captain. won the 1929 Australian singles. He played in the Davis Cup from 1926 to 1930 and was non-playing captain in 1952. In 1952, at the age of 49, Dr. Gregory took Geoffrey Paish’s place in the Davis Cup doubles, and, with Tony Mottram, won a vital match for Britain in Jugoslavia. i
