HIGH-SPEED CHASE

Police Capture Three Men

(K.Z.. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, January 11. A policeman drove one-handed at 90 miles an hour while firing at an allegedly stolen car in a chase on the Hume highway near Melbourne yesterday. The policeman was driving a patrol car. In a chase towards Melbourne the fugitive car broadsided in gravel at 70 miles an hour approaching a police road-block, and dodged the barrier. Police at the road-block fired into the car at point-blank range, but it raced on. A patrolman at the outer suburb of Fawkner stopped the car by firing a bullet into a back tyre. The 11-mile chase lasted eight minutes. The patrol crew arrested three men in the car at pistol point. They made them lie on the roadway until reinforcements arrived. Police said they recovered stolen goods valued at about £AI3O.
