Forcible Feeding In Prison
(NZ. Press Association—CopvriaM) LONDON. January 10. Two anti-rocket base demonstrators in Norwich prison were “Tcibly fed last night. They had been on a hunger strike since being sent to prison on Monday to serve a 14-day sentence lor refusing to keep the peace. The two men were John Otter of Cambridge, and Philip Cook, of London. Announcing today the forcible feeding of the two men, prison authorities said the prison medical officer decided to take this action because the prisoners’ refusal to eat was “impairing their health.” Several more persons were arrested in various parts of the country early today following their refusal to keep the peace and cease demonstrations at rocket bases in Britain. Altogether 37 demonstrators have refused to keep the peace, but not all have sb far been arrested. A minor anti-nuclear demonstration was held in London this afternoon when a hotel was picketed at which applicants for nuclear work were being interviewed.
