The Stuttgart Chamber Orches- [ tra under Karl Munchinger was to begin its second United States concert tour in New York on January 5. After its East - Coast appearances it will go on • to the Middle West and Canada, , ending up again in New England. the whole tour being sponsored by ■ the West German Government. ' The orchestra was formed in • 1945, from the best young West European instrumentalists avail- ’ able, by the eminent young con- ' ductor, Karl Munchinger.' It com- > prises four first violins, four Sec- • ond ' violins, four violas, three ! celH and one bass viol. Each 5 1 player is a virtuoso performer in *1 his own right and has a personal 'ireputation as a solo placer. 5 1 Munchinger himself is in con- '' stant demand as a guest conduc’’.tor. In fact, he preceded his • group to the United States in the ‘ spring of 1953 to conduct nine ■ concerts for the San Francisco > Symphony. r The Stuttgart Chamber Orches- ’ tra boasts a large repertoire .from t early Baroque music .to Mozart 8 and the Viennese classics, and ;also modern works.
