FIRE DAMAGES MOTOR-CAR
Vehicle On Hoist
Fire damaged a motor-car in the Blenheim road garage, 20 Matipo street, on Saturday evening, the Christchurch fire brigade reported yesterday. The brigade received a call to the station at*B.lo pin. to put the fire out.
A spokesman for the brigade said that a motor-car had been up on a hoist for -the replacement of a petrol jpump when a short-circuit had occurred in the wiring and caused W fire which damaged wiring and paintwork before it was extinguished. Three minor fires occupied the brigade during the afternoon. The first call was at 2.50 p.m. to 193 Matsons avenue, a property occupied by Douglas Frederick Mehrtons, where a spark from a rubbish fire had ignited nearby grass. One unit from St. Albans station attended to the fire. The second fire was a rubbish fire out of control at 219 Bower avenue, a property occupied by William Hobson. One unit from New Brighton extinguished the fire before any damage was done. A grass fire on vacant City Council land at Bromley road was put out by units from the Woolston and Central fire stations which were summoned at 5.18 p.m.
