STABBING ON U.S. LINER
Seaman Charged And Remanded (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 2. Arrested by detectives on Wednesday night after in incident aboard the liner, Mariposa, at Prince’s wharf, Claude C. Bumpus, aged 55, an American seaman, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland on Thursday was assault causing actual bodily harm to Theodore Lindbery. Bumpus was remanded to January 9 by Mr W. S. Spence, S.M.
The prosecutor (Mr B. Jones) said the victim of the alleged assault was also a member of the crew of the Mariposa. An application for bail by Mr H. Haigh on behalf of Bumpus was heard in chambers.
Mr Lindbery, aged 37, a ship’s baker, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital on Tuesday nighl with a stab wound in the side.
