.rx oxiui. l visii vvcia pdiu LU Christchurch recently by the former Canterbury Ranfurly Shield player, E- Bullmore. He returned to C h ristchurch to be married. Bullmore, a very solid front ranker, played for High School Old Boys and soon caught the eye of the selectors. He represented Canterbury in four matches in 1954 and another 12 in 1955. He went to Auckland early in 1956 and that season played eight games for the province. He is now art teacher at Tauranga College.

Peter McNally, a New Zealand representative surf swimmer, is making a welcome comeback to his favourite sport of swimming by taking up amateur coaching. McNally, who is highly regarded as one of Canterbury’s best freestyle swimmers in his day is now coaching three promising Canterbury swimmers. Anne and Rab Blair, Canterbury’s most successful brother and sister swimming combination, are deriving immense benefit from the strict coaching schedule McNally is laying down, and both have bettered Canterbury records in recent weeks.

Several of New Zealand’s leading hammer throwers have been developed in Canterbury largely through the enthusiasm of John Brown, of the Technical Club. Two of the more prominent of these, Max Carr and Dave Leech, have been lost to other centres, but a young athlete with good prospects of maintaining Canterbury’s high tradition in this event is G. Fullerton (Technical). Still only 15, Fullerton won the junior A grade competition on Saturday with a distance of 122 ft 4in, which has been good enough to take a place at the national junior titles on many occasions.

F. Bishop, who plays as a five-eighths in the New Brighton senior Rugby team, has been showing good form at .the inter-club athletic meetings at Rugby Park. Bishop began the season in the Junior B grade but he soon qualified for the A grade. His best time for the 100 yards this season is 10.6 sec.

The Christchurch senior Rugby half-back, Ray Liddicoat, distinguished himself playing for the Marist second grade A cricket team against Boys’ High School recently by taking six catches behind the wickets.. Liddicoat stood close to the stumps against two very fast bowlers, Peter Stevenson and John Collier, and never made a mistake.

Although the leading Canterbury yachtsman. Peter Mander will not compete in the national Finn class contest to be held at Lyttelton next week, his new boat will be available for visiting yachtsmen in the contest. Mander had made previous holiday a r r angements and could not compete in the event. He expects to launch tiis new craft this year and sail it this season.

★ The former Wellington high jumper, Mark Smith, had his best jump for two seasons when he cleared 6ft at Methven recently. He took each jump at his first attempt and might have gone higher had he not reached the maximum height of the standards. Still only 20, Smith cleared 6ft 2in as a junior and won the national junior title in 1956. x

A member of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Centre and a physical training instructor at Papakura Military Camp, Captain P. F. Sharpley, will be transferred to Waiouru Camp. Captain Sharply, a former 100 yards, 120 yards hurdles and 220 yards hurdles title holder, is chairman of the Auckland centre coaching committee and president of the Auckland Coaches’ Club.
