COLTS’ CRICKET MATCH

Gallop Scores 111 (New Zealand ? Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, January 2. The Canterbury Colts cricket team was well placed at the end of the first day of its two-day match against Taranaki which began at New Plymouth today. It scored 301 runs in its first innings and at stumps had claimed six Taranaki wickets for 101 runs. The highlight of the day was a whirlwind 111 in 115 minutes by a former Canterbury Plunket Shield player, D. L. Gallop. His fellow Plunket Shield representative, P. G. Z. Harris, score a more inhibited 83 in 199 minutes.

Gallop to complete a fine double, broke the back of the Taranaki innings with his flighted leg-breaks. So far he has'taken four wickets for 23 runs off seven overs.

The main details are: Canterbury 301 (Harris 83, Gallop 111. G. K. Austin 26. G. R. McCaulay 21, B. A. Carpenter 20). Bowling for Taranaki D. Kinsella took four for 102 off 37 overs, and T. O’Byme three for 52 off 17 overs. Taranaki 101 for six wickets (C. Burgess 26, T. Dravitski 27. Gallop four for 23).
