Canoe Trip And Swim Across Strait Planned

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 2. A novel return journey across Cook Strait is planned this summer by Mr A. W. Clarke, of Eastbourne. He will paddle a canoe across the strait to the South Island and swim back to the North Island. Mr Clarke, a 41-year-old timber mill machinist, has been planning for some years for his swim across the strait. No-one has yet swum Cook Strait but it has been crossed by canoe. Lord Freyberg made a canoe crossing before the First World War.
