SUBURBAN BEATS WELLINGTON
Fitzgerald Shield Match Steady batting by R. Cullen (80) and N. Collender (50 not out) i enabled Suburban to beat Wellington Mercantile by five wickets in the annual cricket match- for the Fitzgerald Shield, played at Sydenham Park yesterday. Suburban was In a bad position when it lost four wickets for 34, but Cullen and Collender became associated in a matchwinning partnership, which produced 134 runs. The two batsmen carried the overnight score of 67 steadily and brightly on towards the Wellington score yesterday morning. . They also provided a fine example of concentration, against a steady bowling attack. R. Cullen hit 12 boundaries in his innings and not only made victory possible but also became the winner of the D. N. Stokes trophy for the most outstanding performance in the match. N. Collender gave Cullen valuable support and scored a good 50 not out.
