TRAVELLERS BY AIR
Young Girls From Adelaide
Two smart young girls stepped out of a taxi in fetching sailor hats last evening, paid the fare with travel ticket, shouldered their airways bags, entered a Christchurch hotel and checked in at the desk like seasoned travellers.
They were Kathryn Bridge, aged 13, and Elizabeth Wood, aged 10, cousins and neighbours, who travelled together by air from Adelaide yesterday. Their destination is Ohakea, where they will spend a holiday with Kathryn’s sister, Mrs E. Jamieson. Asked how they came to be making the journey alone, Kathryn said her mother visited New Zealand during the year and it had been decided the girls should make the trip in their holidays while half-fare could still be paid for Elizabeth. Kathryn is a pupil at Adelaide Methodist Ladies’ College and Elizabeth is a boarder at the Presbyterian Girls’ College in Adelaide. The girls said they enjoyed their flight immensely and were impressed with the beauty of the Southern Alps. “Such big mountains—ours are just little pimples,” said Kathryn. Elizabeth said everything had gone smoothly on their trip and they had not been concerned over travelling alone; they only needed to consult their well-documented itinerary to see what to do next. “Two heads are better than one,” she said.
