AREAS FOR PARKING

Gloucester Street Properties Three proposals for off-street car parks in the city were approved by the City Council last evening. The first was for a car park at 61-65 Gloucester street, where the land, which has some houses and outbuildings on it, changed hands recently. The area is almost immediately to the west of the Returned Services* Association buildings. The new owner proposed to tne council that the area should be allowed as a car park, and said he proposed to demolish existing buildings and make the surface suitable for a car park. The Canterbury Horticultural Society was given permission to pull down the house on the south side of Gloucester street on the corner of Cambridge terrace and to establish a parking area for about 40 vehicles. The society has plans for a commercial building with a hall and offices on the site, but will use the property as a car park until it is ready to build. On an application to use a section in Allen street, between Manchester street and Madras street, for an off-street parking lot or as a car dealer’s yard, the council approved use of the area for a car park only. The section has a frontage of 53ft and a depth of 73ft.
