NINE-TRIP BUS CARDS
Time Restriction To Be Lifted
To encourage the use of public transport, the time restriction on the use of the nine-ride trip cards made many years ago was removed from January 5 for a trial period of six months by the Christchurch Transport Board yesterday. Opposing the proposal, Mr E. J. Bradshaw said that the trip cards meant a discount of 16 per cent, on cash fares to the purchasers. The change could cost £70,000 a year in revenue loss. He had no objection to fares being reduced but he doubted the wisdom of making such a vast change in the board’s financial structure in the middle of the year, particularly because of the situation regarding rates.
Bamford Street Turn-round.— Agreement has been reached by the Christchurch Transport Board with the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early Settlers’ Association to have a bus turn-round on the land on which the memorial bollard is situated south-east of Bamford street. The board, which will pay an annual rental of £5, is investigating the beautification of the land.
