Dr John was gaoled for four years by the High Court in December. 1956, for treasonable plotting with the East German Government

He was released earlier this year as an act of clemency by the West German President, Professor Theodor Heuss. Dr. John said at his trial that Wohlgemuth had drugged his coffee and abducted him to East Berlin.

The Court rejected this allegation and ruled that John acted of his own free will the night he went to East Berlin.
