NEW METHODIST CHURCH
Opening On Sunday At Lyttelton Lyttelton’s third Methodist church since 1852 will be opened on Sunday afternoon by the president of the Methodist Conference of New Zealand (the Rev. G. R. H. Peterson). The building is smaller than i the previous one, built in 1861, I but it has been designed on mod- I ern lines. The construction is of I concrete blocks, the roof being of I the best of the slates of the old I church. Several memorial lead- I light windows, given in 1940, have | been installed. The Communion table Is of kauri planks from the original pews and the pulpit from the old church has been scaled down to suit the smaller building. The original font, used for 1500 bap- I tisms, has been reinstalled. The ] original organ has been overhauled I and renovated. A feature of the interior de- I sign is the reversal of the seating, 1 with the organ at the rear of the congregation. A plate-glass sur- I round of the reredos gives a view I of the port and harbour and of I Mount Herbert
