CASHMERE HIGH SCHOOL
813 Pupils Enrolled
For 1959
Eight-hundred and thirteen pupils will attend Cashmere High School next year, compared with 647 pupils this year, the headmaster (Mr T. H. McGombs) told the board of governors at their meeting last evening.
“At the end of last year, my estimate for 1959 was 700 pupils and now we only need another five pupils to qualify for an additional teacher,” he said “The increase in the roll is due to the high proportion of pupils staying on next year.”
The New Zealand average for the period a pupil spends at secondary school is three years
and three months, but the average at Cashmere must be higher, he said.
“Christchurch Boys’ High School has an average of four years,” Mr McCombs added.
Next year it would not be possible to take any more pupils in the third forms, a few in part of the fourth forms and some in the fifth and sixth forms, said Mr McCombs.
