Inch Of Rain In 15 Minutes
(New Zealand Press Association) TAUMARUNUI, Dec. 11. A sudden thunderstorm at* 1 p.m. today brought a tremendous downpour of rain which lasted for about 15 minutes and proved too heavy for the roof gutters in some business houses In the town. Considerable damage was caused to clothing stbeks and other goods in two shops. In some parts of the town water covered footpaths and turned lowlying areas into temporary lakes. The Borough Council recordings show that in the period of 15 minutes just on an inch of rain fell. Tax Sult Against Chaplin.—A spokesman for the United States Internal Revenue Service said yesterday that a Government suit to collect 1.242,533. dollars in income taxes from the actor, Charles Chaplin,, was scheduled for the United State* Tax- Court in January.- Chaplin- is living. in Switzer-land—-Lbs Angeles.
