A sudden thunderstorm at* 1 p.m. today brought a tremendous downpour of rain which lasted for about 15 minutes and proved too heavy for the roof gutters in some business houses In the town. Considerable damage was caused to clothing stbeks and other goods in two shops. In some parts of the town water covered footpaths and turned lowlying areas into temporary lakes. The Borough Council recordings show that in the period of 15 minutes just on an inch of rain fell.
