Australian Wool Sales

The Melbourne Woolbrokers’ Association reported a 97 per cent, clearance of the 14.900 bales on offer at the Melbourne wool sales today The market finished on a firm basis with values for all descriptions showing no appreciable change on opening rates. There was strong competition throughout. the principal buyers being Japan, the Continent and the United Kingdom. Crossbred prices: good to ■ super. 60’s, • 66d; good, 56’s, 53d; good, 50’s, 50d. Sydney Sale Values were unchanged at the Sydney sales today—the last sale before the Christmas recess. The Sydney Woolselling Brokers’ Association reported an offering of 13,395 bales, with a clearance of 13,164. Strong competition came from Japan, supported by the Continent and Britain. Values for average descriptions of Merino were unchanged on yesterday’s rates, w'hile good style fine qualities continued irregular and quoted in buyers’ favour. Merino skirtings, comebacks and crossbreds were in good demand and remained fully firm Sugar Price.—The United Sugar Terminal Association’s price for raw sugar is 32s 9d per cwt, c.1.f., basis December-January ahipment*—(P.A.)
