Service Graduates In Australia

Nine New Zealanders will graduate from Australian service colleges tomorrow. Five are among 20 graduates from the Officer Cadet School at Portsea, Victoria, who will officially march out as secondlieutenants at a ceremonial parade, and- four will graduate as cadet midshipmen at the Jervis Bay Naval College, Canberra. The New Zealand graduates at Portsea are D. S. Baker, N. S. Kidd, and P. J. Tohill, all of Wellington, B. G. Jenkin of Hamilton, and J. F. Mills, of the Bay of Plenty. The Australian Army’s Adjutant-General, Major-General R. E. Wade, will take the salute. The naval graduates are R. L. Clough, Port. Chalmers; R. E. Follas, Palmerston North; P. C. Hicks, Thames; and T. S. Jones, Timaru. The Governor-General (Field-Marshal Sir William Slim)., will take the salute at a march past. The New Zealand cadet midshipmen and 22 other graduates will join the Royal Australian Navy training ship. Swan, early in January, for a 14-week course. On April 23 they will leave Australia to do 16 months’ training at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, England. They will then be promoted to acting sublieutenants.
