TEN-YEAR-OLD OFFENCE
Man Convicted Of Fraud (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, Dec. 9. Ten years after he had cashed a false cheque for £l5 with a Chinese fruiterer at Feilding, the law reached out to add another conviction to the list of Samuel Henry Coley, aged 44. At present serving a term of preventive detention in the Wanganui prison, Coley appeared before Mr S. S. Preston, S.M., in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court today and was convicted and discharged after pleading guilty to a charge of false pretences. Detective F. Thomson said the offence had occurred on November 18J 1948, and Coley had admitted that the false cheque concerned was one made out by hiip, when he was interviewed recently. The subsequent information which had been laid was purely in the nature of a clearingup charge.
