TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
Christmas Party Held About 300 women wore their prettiest cocktail gowns for the Christchurch Central. Townswomen’s Guild Christmas party in the Caledonian Hall last evening. Carols sung by the guild choir, conducted by Mrs J. Gilmore, began the entertainment for the evening, after the president (Mrs W. Hodge) had welcomed members and guests. The guild drama group performed "Six Wives in Favour,” a comedy in one act The stage was artistically decorated with red roses and privet hedge. A group of summer flowers in many shades banked on either aide with fems and foliage were placed at the head of the central aisle. The floral work was carried out by members of the garden circle. A cake, made and iced by Mrs E. Royfee, was cut by Mrs Hodge, who wore a long gown of wine brocade with a matching bolero. Specially-invited guests included the Dominion secretary (Mrs R. Smith); Mrs E. Collett, a member of the Dominion executive; the area president (Mrs J. Fowler) and Mr Fowler and representatives from sister guilds. Other entertainers were Mr Hill’s Banjo Band and Mr Frank Browning (vocal solos). The accompanist was Mrs G. Marston.
