Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, December 9. Duplication of horses* names in Australia and New Zealand is causing confusion among Australian racegoers, according to the racing writer of the Melbourne “Sun.” The Writer says two Rise Again* are racing now, and also two horses named Recount. Rise Again, a four-year-old New Zealand mare, finished third to Creme de Cacao in the Parramatta Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday. Many racegoers at Moonee Valley thought that this Rise Again was the chestnut gelding by Murran— Nithura, which is trained at Flemington by T. J. Hughes. The Rise Again in Sydney is by Resurgent—Stratocruiser and is trained by Tommy Smith for Mr M. J. Moodabe. The writer says Recount, which is engaged in the Fund Hurdle at Flemington on Saturday, is no relation to the Recount formerly trained by Theo Lewis for Mr Graham Nathan, but both Recounts are by the New Zealand sire, Count Rendered. “Surely it is time the keepers of the stud books in New Zealand and Australia got together and eliminated the possibility of any further confusion by refusing to register horses whose names are identical or show a close similarity,” the writer said. STRAIGHT DRAW’S CONDITION Extended Spell Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, December 9. Straight Draw will not be fit to race this autumn, according to the racing writer of the Melbourne “Age.” Straight Draw developed a bowed tendon when being prepared for the spring racing and was scratched from all engagements. The writer says the gelding’s leg is again sound, but he will have an extended spell to ensure he will be able to stand a preparation for the Brisbane Cup carnival next June. Straight Draw has the distinction of being the only horse ;to win the A.J.C. Metropolitan, Melbourne Cup, and Sydney Cup in the same season.
