The New Zealand National Council of Churches has appointed Mr D. V. Mander, M.A., of Stratford, to a senior post in the faculty of education in the Christian Teachers' Training College in Salatiga, Java. Thia appointment was made in response to a request from the Teachers’ Training College in Java, where 350 students are being trained as senior high school teachers by an Indonesian and international Christian staff. Mr and Mrs G. Brewster, of New Zealand, are already on the staff, having been appointed by the New Zealand Council of Churches. Mr Mander is a member of the Church of England. He is married with two small children, has an honours degree in psychology, and has done advanced study in education. Both he and Mrs Mander are former students of Victoria University College, Wellington. Mr Mander has served on the staff of the Wellington Technical College, and the Stratford Technical School. He has also served as secretary and housemaster for the Wellington City Mission. His appointment is for an initial period of three years, and he and his family will leave for Indonesia as soon as possible. “Mr Mander will go to Indonesia representing no one Church, but all the Churches within the New Zealand National Council,” said the general secretary of the council (the Rev. Alan Brash) in making this announcement, “and his support will be provided by the Council’s annual Christmas appeal for Asia.”
