Haamer Baths
Sir,—l wish to protest strongly against J. Shaw’s letter. He is apparently speaking from hearsay and should make sure of his facts. There is no time bell in the women’s pool. The attendant calls time 15 minutes before closing. When the electric light fitting fell there was no danger from live terminals as the lights were not on. The danger was frpm broken glass: The attendant, who was on hand when it happened, immediately reported the incident and was instructed to close the pool. She then called the women out but some refused to leave. Lastly, the attendant is on duty at 7 sharp, by which time, during holidays, a queue has formed. It stands to reason they cannot all be sold tickets at once, which naturally means first come, first served. The attendant’s job is no sinecure and people should try to be more considerate.—Yours, etc., ON THE SPOT. November 29, 1958.
