Replacement Of Ambulances
Authority to make a grant of £1750, half the cost of replacing two ambulances, to the St. John Ambulance Association will be
sought of the Health Department by the North Canterbury Hospital Board.
Approval was reported to the board yesterday of an interim grant of £275 a month for category C ambulance work by the Christchurch Centre of the Ambulance Association and of grants of £3OO and £l5O respectively to Lyttelton and Amuri ambulance sub-centres.
District Nurses.— The continuation of a subsidy of £G36 a year for each nurse of the Nurse ' Maude District Nursing Association has been approved. Huntabury Suh - Matron.— Miss Adamson, at present a general at the Huntsbury children’s home, has been appointed sub-matron of the home.
Registrars to Interchange.— Tentative plans have been made for the interchange of junior medical registrars between the Christchurch Hospital and the Royal Sydney Hospital. Visiting Urologists.— After the forthcoming retirement of Mr E. R. Reay. the board decided, the urology department should consist of two senior visiting urologists.
Smallpox Prevention.— The hospital committee holds the opinion that the boards present programme of preventive inoculation of the staff at the Christchurch Public Hospital against smallpox is satisfactory. Busy Hospitals.— The Lyttelton. Lincoln, and Kaiapoi hospitals were busy maternity hospitals, reported the hospital committee recommending that an additional sister be appointed to each institution.
Waikari Matron.— The appointment of Miss E. D. Hayes as matron of the Waikari Public Hospital has been approved by the Health Department. Memorial Avenue Land.—A small area of land on Memorial avenue owned by the board will be offered to the Waimairi County Council on a 21-year-lease at a peppercorn rental. The council had asked that the land be transferred as an addition to Jellie Park, but the finance committee reported to the board that until the use of the board’s land had been positively determined it would appear to be undesirable to part permanently with any portion.
Chemical Pathologist.— Because of the difficulty of obtaining the services of a qualified chemical pathologist, the board adopted flrecommendation of the director of pathology that an endeavour be made to train a suitable man.
