REGISTERED NURSES

Annual Report Of Association The conference of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association in Christchurch last April was the main event in the Canterbury branch’s activities in its Golden Jubilee year, said the president (Mrs M. Chambers) in the annual report. “The branch delegates to the conference were Misses T. N. Hughes, J. Taylor, J. Ritchie, and D. Newman, all of whom contributed to the discussions. Having had the conference in our own town, I am sure all our members will realise how important it is that delegates should be willing to take part and have the ability and the knowledge to do so.” The Canterbury branch began in 1908 with about 50 members. In 1958 it had 362 members, 214 of whom were practising, 6 were practising overseas, 132 were nonpractising, three were associate members, six were life members and one was an honorary member, the report said. The branch gained 35 new members during the year. The branch continued to be represented on the Pan Pacific and South-east Asian Women’s Association, the Save the Children Fund, the National Council of Women and it sent a representative to C.0.R.5.0. meetings.
