RUBBER MILLS DISPUTE
Settlement Not Yet Reached
The dispute at the Empire Rubber Mills in Woolston is still unsettled and yesterday workers at the mills continued on a normal production basis. The dispute arises from changes made by the company in the system of incentive bonus payments. Mill workers met yesterday afternoon and are expected to meet again today to hold a ballot on the dispute.
On Monday the secretary of the Canterbury Rubber Workers' Union <Mr A. B. Grant) had talks in Wellington with senior officers of the Department of Labour. The Secretary of labour (Mr H L. Bockett) suggested yesterday that workers and employers in the dispute should meet under tion Commissioner (Mr S. W the chairmanship of the ConciliaArmstrong) to try to reach an agreement.
Until any discussions were held the status quo should be observed, he said.
